Morphés

Morphés for Flute and Electronics is a three-part electroacoustic collaboration between flutist Alexander Ishov and composer Theocharis Papatrechas, exploring the inner world of the flute. It examines how technology displaces listening perspective, allowing listeners to inhabit sonic landscapes that can only be imagined. Each phase of the project is presented in a different medium: fixed media, live performance, and online. Morphés explores how altering the relationship between performer, listener, and musical materials transforms the listening experience.

I

Morphés I is a 30-minute fixed media work for spatialized pre-recorded flutes, presented in February 2023 at the IDEAS Festival, Qualcomm Institute, University of California San Diego. Here is a short excerpt from the work.

II

Morphés II adapts the work to a live performance version for live flute and electronics, incorporating pre-recorded materials, live processing, and lighting. This work was premiered at Alexander’s June 2023 recital at UC San Diego.

III

Morphés III translates the work to the online medium. This version will explore binaural spatialization and interactivity, and will be presented in 2024.
